Domino’s Pizza Expands Global Presence With 21,002 New Stores

When you think of dominoes, the image that comes to mind is one thing knocking over another until a chain reaction takes place and everything falls over. This sort of sequence is the origin of the term “domino effect” – where one thing leads to much greater – and sometimes catastrophic – consequences. But the power of the domino extends far beyond what you see with these wood and plastic toy pieces stacked on end in long lines. Scientists have shown that a domino can actually knock over things about one-and-a-half times their size. A 1983 study by University of British Columbia physicist Lorne Whitehead demonstrated this with a 13 domino set. This video shows how the dominoes are positioned to make this effect work, and it is incredible to watch.

Domino’s is expanding its global presence with 21,002 new stores. The new locations, located in cities across the globe, help the company meet its ambitious growth goals outlined in its 2022 Domino’s Vision. The company currently has more than 20,000 stores worldwide, and it plans to open another 90 international outlets this year to help further expand its market share.

A career mercenary, the mutant Domino became an ally of the time-traveling Cable (Nathan Summers). After he lobotomized himself to control his powerful messianic powers, she helped him oppose the ancient mutant-devouring Skornn entity and tracked down his former Weapon X director, Malcolm Colcord. During an overlap of Earth with the Microverse, Domino joined a version of X-Force that included her Wild Pack teammates Grizzly and Hammer. During that period, she shared a psionic link with Cable.

After a brief romance with Milo Thurman, she rejoined the Six Pack, working for the Hong Kong branch of X-Corporation and fighting alongside the X-Men. She later aided the mutants of the Utopia island and opposed John Sublime’s Third Species mutant organ harvesting movement. She also acted as a bodyguard for Storm and fought with a S.H.I.E.L.D. incarnation of the Six Pack on an anti-terror mission in Rumekistan, where she assassinated Flag-Smasher.

Domino is a Western word for a 28-piece set of oblong tiles, each bearing from one to six pips on either half. The dominoes are laid down in lines and angular patterns to play positional games. The earliest Chinese sets have no blank faces, and each domino originally represented one of the 21 results of two thrown dice. Some modern domino sets are “extended” to allow for more combinations of ends by introducing tiles with extra pips. The original meaning of the term is perhaps derived from the French dominus, or ‘lord, master’, and is also attested to in a French-influenced form, Domniono. The word was also used in the 17th century to refer to a large, hooded cloak with mask for the upper part of the head worn at masquerades. This sense is no longer in use, but the name continues to be applied to an eponymous musical genre.
