Domino – A Comic Book Character

A domino is a small flattened disc (often called a “token”) that has one identifying mark on each side and is blank or identically patterned on the other. The name derives from the fact that if you tip the first domino ever-so-slightly, all of the others will fall into place in a cascade of rhythmic motion. Domino is also a popular game, used in part because of the way the pieces are placed so that they can be easily picked up and moved.

In comic books, Domino is a mutant with the power to create and influence luck in herself and those around her. This luck-affecting power is unconsciously triggered when Domino encounters or engages in situations of extreme danger. She has demonstrated her ability to sway the odds in her favor numerous times, including when she single-handedly stopped a bank robbery and later saved an X-Men team from the Hecatomb.

Domino’s powers are also augmented by her experience as a professional mercenary. Her training has honed her skills as an expert marksman and martial artist. She also possesses impressive speed and agility. She uses her abilities to both fight and distract her enemies, and she is a natural leader with the confidence and charisma to inspire those around her.

Although she initially worked as a bodyguard, Domino later became a part of the mercenary team known as Six Pack. This group of mutants, which also included G. W. Bridge, Hammer, Silver Sable, Contessa and Anaconda, was hired by the government to be a security task force, the 198. Six Pack later became the mercenary squad for Cable. Dom eventually left Six Pack and teamed up with the time-traveling Cable. She also worked on a short-term basis with the X-Men.

Domino has a volatile relationship with the egomaniacal John Sublime. He has manipulated her and attempted to control her through her mutant powers. She has fought him multiple times, most recently when he assumed the identity of Domino’s ex-husband Blockade. She and the no-longer deceased Xorn teamed up with Jesse Aaronson to stop him. Aaronson used his power to disrupt machinery to deactivate Blockade’s implant, allowing Domino to overcome him.

While Domino is best known for her X-Men adventures, she has also been a member of Storm’s security task force and a regular in the pages of X-Corporation. She has worked with several different incarnations of X-Force and once briefly dated fellow mutant Colossus. In addition, Domino has partnered with the mutant crimefighters of ULTIMATUM and fought alongside them in Rumekistan.
