Domino has the ability to influence the laws of probability, shifting odds in her favor; she is also a weapons expert who uses her staff to fire projectiles. Her abilities are enhanced by her strength, enabling her to withstand immense physical force. In addition to her mutant powers, she is a superb athlete and martial artist, and an accomplished linguist. Her name derives from the Latin word Dominus, which means lord or master, and conveys her sense of dominance and control.
Born Neena Thurman, Domino is the albino daughter of a Chicago priest who took her into his care after her parents died in a car accident. When she was 13 her mutant powers manifested, and Domino exhibited an unusual ability to change the outcome of events. The power was heightened by her desire to control outcomes and the need to dominate and command others. This fueled her mercenary career.
Her first job was protecting scientist Milo Thurman, but she soon bonded with another mercenary, G. W. Bridge. They joined the mutant gang Six Pack, and when that group dissolved after an event in the Yucatan, Domino went her own way. She eventually linked up with X-Force, but was impersonated by Copycat for a time.
In her solo career, Domino worked with the Hong Kong branch of X-Corporation and later joined a S.H.I.E.L.D. task force that was investigating Weapon X, the clandestine program Malcolm Colcord ran to create superhuman soldiers. The operatives were unaware that Colcord and his fellow Weapon X director Brent Jackson were using mutant prisoners in a concentration camp to mutate humans into super-strong soldiers. During this mission, Domino teamed with Siryn and Sunspot to infiltrate the facility, and they were exposed by Zero Tolerance forces.
After working with the X-Force team, Domino rejoined Pete Wisdom’s proactive black ops unit X-Tract. She was targeted for assassination by the mutant assassin Marcus Tsung, but survived thanks to alien technology grafts from Wisdom’s sister Romany. Heavily augmented with these grafts, Domino was then sent by Romany to kill British mutant Corben in a top-secret plot to use alien technology to build a techno-organic world engine.
Domino’s previous CEO David Brandon put her values into practice and helped turn around the company when he became CEO in 2008. One of those values was to champion our customers, and he did so by listening to Domino’s employees. When Doyle took over as CEO, he continued this value by speaking with Domino’s workers and addressing their complaints directly. This is how Domino’s was able to improve employee morale and turn the company around. This same principle can be applied to student learning. Students with learning challenges often experience the frustration of falling dominos, where one small movement can impact the whole line before they are finished building it. It’s important for teachers to pay attention to these students and provide them with the support they need.
