Who Is Domino?

Domino is a mutant who uses her unique powers to manipulate emotions. She is also a skilled bodyguard who specializes in combat and martial arts. She has worked for the Hong Kong branch of X-Corporation and has fought alongside the X-Men. She also was a member of the Wild Pack (later known as the Six Pack) led by the time-traveling mutant Cable. She was briefly impersonated by Copycat.

During her early career as a mercenary, Domino was employed as the bodyguard of genius Milo Thurman. They fell in love but their relationship was short-lived when an attack by A.I.M. terrorists forced Thurman to operate under deep cover. Leaving his government assignment, Domino joined X-Corporation and later teamed with the X-Men. She was also a member of the team that battled the cyborg Reavers and rogue CIA agent Ekatarina Gryaznova on an El Salvador mission. During that fight, Domino disabled a prototype combat droid codenamed Jericho with an electromagnetic pulse. Unfortunately, the device was neurologically controlled by Gryaznova and the resultant feedback left her comatose. In the aftermath, she reunited with her former X-Men partner Cable and returned to her mercenary work.

Following M-Day, when the insane Scarlet Witch depowered most mutants, Domino reformed X-Force with Shatterstar and Caliban to liberate mutants sequestered by the Office of National Emergency. Later, she was recruited by G.W. Bridge to help thwart Operation Zero Tolerance and posed as a camera crew with Sunspot and Siryn to infiltrate a medical research facility they believed was conducting anti-mutant experiments. Afterwards, she joined forces with Cable and the MLF to oppose the cyborg Reavers. Domino then helped Cable investigate the messianic behavior of his old partner, Flag-Smasher and his ULTIMATUM group.

Domino’s ability to make the voices of marginalized groups heard is a perfect example of the “domino effect.” This phrase refers to the way one simple event can lead to much larger and sometimes catastrophic consequences. It is important for people to be dominoes and to stand up with others who desire and work for change so that their voice is heard. Otherwise, it’s easy to fall silent and let the status quo prevail.
