Domino’s Pizza and Undercover Boss

A domino is a small rectangular block of wood or plastic with a face that is blank or marked by dots resembling those on dice. Dominoes are normally twice as long as they are wide, making them easy to stack and re-stack when not in use. They are often used for games of chance or skill, and are popular with children and adults.

Dominos are usually white with black pips and may be made of either polymer or natural materials such as bone, silver lip ocean pearl oyster shell (mother-of-pearl, MOP), ivory, or dark hardwood such as ebony, with contrasting colors or inlaid pips. More recently, domino sets have been made of marble, granite, soapstone, and other stones; metals such as brass and pewter; ceramic clay; and glass. The latter are generally much heavier and more expensive than the polymer dominoes.

Most commercially available domino sets consist of 28 tiles, called “double sixes,” though larger sets exist and are used for games involving many players or those looking for longer domino runs. Most of the play formats involve emptying one’s hand while blocking opponents from playing their pieces or scoring points.

The earliest known domino game was played by connecting lines of pieces in a row, each piece touching the edge of another to continue the chain. The first player to do so won all the pieces in the line. The game was then passed to the next player, who added to the line until a loser ran out of pieces or all players had completed their lines.

In some cases, a domino effect occurs when a patient gets sick from the same infection that a medical professional already has. This is referred to as a nosocomial infection, and it can lead to other health problems in the patient.
