The Domino Effect

Domino is a small rectangular block used as a gaming object, the face of which is blank or marked with dots resembling those on dice. The word is also used to refer to a game played with such a block, or a system of playing such a game, with the goal of putting down all of one’s tiles before an opponent can do so.

A domino has a kinetic energy based on its position. When it is standing upright, this energy is stored, whereas when a domino falls, it transforms to potential and kinetic energy, which then moves the next domino in the chain. This chain reaction creates a force that is about one-and-a-half times greater than the mass of each individual domino, says University of Toronto physicist Stephen Morris.

As a result, the chain of dominoes will keep falling as long as there are still dominoes left to fall, even when a single domino is no longer at its tipping point. That’s why a shrewd domino player will carefully place the next domino so that it can push the first domino past its tipping point.

The most popular domino games involve blocking and scoring. The latter group includes games such as bergen and muggins, where players score by counting the pips (spots) on the winning players’ remaining tiles. A simpler type of game is a draw game, in which players begin the game with seven tiles and pass their turn when they cannot make a play.

Whether you compose your novel off the cuff or take your time with a careful outline, plotting a story ultimately comes down to answering one simple question: What happens next? Taking a cue from the domino effect can help you deliver a dramatic conclusion that will keep your readers on the edge of their seats.

Leadership and Management

Leadership has more to do with standing out than it does with keeping things in line, so Domino’s new CEO knew that the company needed some serious leadership reinforcement. To do this, he chose to go undercover in a Domino’s Pizza restaurant as part of the show Undercover Boss. By doing so, he was able to see firsthand the issues faced by Domino’s employees, and address them head on.

A Domino’s Leadership Structure

Despite being an international brand, Domino’s Pizza operates as a local business in most of the communities it serves. This allows its teams to build close ties with customers and develop deep understanding of their needs. In addition, it also enables them to create customized products and services.

As a result, Domino’s has been able to maintain its competitive advantage in the marketplace.
