The Domino Effect is the principle that one small change in a chain can impact all other parts of that same chain. It is an important concept to understand when it comes to teaching students with learning differences because some of their challenges can impact all other aspects of their learning. Whether they are compensating for their learning differences or struggling to master the fundamentals of a subject, all these changes can be like dominoes falling on top of each other. Often, this impact can become so great that the students may give up on learning altogether.
Domino is a character with the ability to create good luck for herself and others around her. This unconsciously controlled talent is a form of psionic aura that alters probabilities. This allows Domino to receive “good luck” while her opponents suffer “bad luck.” This can range from having enemy equipment malfunction to hitting the exact button that shuts down a machine overloading with electricity. Domino cannot consciously control this effect, and can only activate it by placing herself in a situation where she could be harmed.
Dominic first appeared as a career mercenary, but after she saved the life of her boss, Milo Thurman, she became more involved in superheroing. She joined the Six Pack and later teamed with Cable to battle terrorists. She worked for Xavier’s X-Corporation in its Hong Kong branch and even fought alongside the X-Men. During the event “M-Day,” Domino was targeted for assassination by the mutant with the power to murder, Marcus Tsung. X-Force managed to hold him off, but Tsung was killed by Pete Wisdom’s sister Romany, who also removed an alien symbiote from Domino’s body. After that, she continued to serve with X-Force until they were attacked by the augmented human Ekatarina Gryaznova and her prime sentinels at their safe-house in Hell’s Kitchen. Gryaznova placed a neural inhibitor on Dom that slowed her reaction times and made her clumsier. Dom left the team after this and went back to her mercenary ways.
