Domino – The X-Men’s Co-Lead

Domino is a game of tiles that are arranged in a row to form squares or other shapes. They have identifying marks, like spots or numbers, on one side and blank or identically patterned on the other side. Dominoes are commonly paired up in a variety of games, each requiring specific strategies to win. They are also used to create awe-inspiring domino shows, in which builders arrange hundreds of tiles and watch them fall with the nudge of only one.

The word domino means “fifth” in Latin, and has a number of idioms and figurative uses. The simplest version is played between two players, using a double-six set of 28 tiles. These are shuffled together and then a player draws seven tiles from the stock, or boneyard. The player who has the most remaining tiles wins. Other variants require the player to draw two or more tiles and then reshuffle them before drawing additional tiles. The value of a tile can be determined by counting its pips, as shown below:

In comics, Domino is a mutant who has served as co-leader of the mercenary team Six Pack along with Cable and G. W. Bridge, as well as the X-Force. She was possessed by the Undying alien Aentaeros and used as a tool against Semijan, but was freed when she returned to X-Force and Cable, who helped her fight him off. She later rejoined X-Force, but left again when Pete Wisdom attempted to turn it into a proactive black ops team. Domino eventually rejoined X-Force after Cable restructured it, but left again when her old Six Pack teammates Grizzly and Hammer found out she was dating Copycat.

Domino’s leadership is based on the domino effect, in which the actions of one person influence many others. This has been particularly important in the development of the company’s delivery services, which have allowed customers to order pizza from a smartphone app or other device. Domino has a strong commitment to innovation, and half of its employees work in software analytics.

Domino has been involved in numerous missions outside of the normal X-Men world, including an assignment to Rumekistan that was taken over by the anti-mutant extremist group ULTIMATUM. She helped to liberate a group of mutants sequestered by the Office of National Emergency, then helped a team of mercenaries led by her old friend Bridge investigate a mystery in the town of Providence. After the events of M-Day, she worked with X-Force and the reformed Six Pack to save the mutant island of Providence from destruction by the Hecatomb, an alien Shi’ar weapon. She and Cable were then tasked by the new head of the NSA, Bill Corben, to help reestablish a worldwide mutant registry. They helped train a new generation of X-Men, but soon after were sent to investigate the depowered mercenaries from M-Day. Domino was captured by Tolliver (who was actually her former Six Pack teammate Tyler) and had his agent Copycat impersonate her, but she was rescued by Cable and rejoined the team.
